Geotechnical Engineering |
For a structure to be adequate yet reliable, it must “supported from the ground up.” So, whether you are planning to build an earth embankment dam, a multi-story parking garage, or a power plant, your design team needs to know how your facility will interact with the ground it will occupy. That is Apex's reality.
Apex can provide critical geotechnical recommendations to help determine appropriate construction methods for cost-effective yet reliable earthwork and structural foundations. Our subsurface investigations assure satisfactory project performance.
Our professional staff draws on years of professional experience and post-graduate education to identify potential subsurface problems and offer solutions. We share a collective understanding of civil engineering, engineering geology, hydrology and structural geology. Using this knowledge and experience to meet your needs, we gather and interpret data, follow approved analytical methods and apply seasoned judgement.
Apex provides complete geotechnical engineering consulting and design services to architects, engineers, developers, government, industry and public agencies - anyone who might require subsurface investigations for a constructed facility. Anyone who values good communication and a sincere dedication to customer service. Subsurface Investigations To understand the ground you plan to build on, Apex relies on three investigative phases: drilling and sampling, laboratory testing, and professional evaluation: | Drilling | Our fleet of drill rigs and trained crews are supervised by a drilling operations manager to safely, effectively and productively conduct field tests and retrieve soil and rock samples using auger, rotary wash and rock coring techniques. | | | Geotechnical Laboratory | Developing a testing program that is project-specific and following it with an accurate analysis of the results are two of the most important tasks facing a geotechnical engineer. At Apex, laboratory testing is under the direct supervision of a professional engineer trained and experienced in geotechnical laboratory methods and techniques. Our professional standards help assure reliable and effective results. | | | Professional Evaluation | Apex licensed engineers review all field and laboratory data, and consider the planned facility’s loadings and structural requirements. Also, we analyze soil, rock, geology and groundwater conditions, including allowable loads, settlements, heave and other predicted constraints. Specific recommendations, compatible with (and specific to) the planned structure are then developed. Alternative shallow and deep foundations may be offered, in conjunction with earthwork options to facilitate a comparison of construction costs. |
